Thanks for checking Sara... I checked our DEV environment, which we upgraded to the 13.0.3 version (a bug is preventing us from moving formward) and mine still looks the same. I'm VERY curious where things changed and why mine may not have....

How do I create a new forum post as an announcement?

Hey community members,

I'm hoping you can help me with a question around forum posts as announcements. There is a permission in the forums called "Forum - Mark Thread as Annoucement" and can be seen in the list of permissions here: Permissions defined

However, I cannot find any documentation on this and I don't see any options for this functionality in the forum options, application creation or even the group options. Does anyone know how this functionality works and where I can find it? I have double checked all the out of box widgets and still nothing.

We are using version 13.0.2

this is so odd - here are screenshots from a site on version 13.0.4 - the UI actually looks a little different than your screenshot above

the same with a site on version 13.0.3 - I. do not see that permission and the UI looks alittle different:

I'm using 13.0.2.33658 . My permissions look like this:

We did discover that this permission only appears to be linked to the Priority setting of "Forever" (is announcement = true when set to forever sticky), but it doesn't have any visual indicators unfortunately. We also try to never make things sticky forever, so I'm not sure how that would make it an announcement...

That's odd you guys don't see that.

Just writing to agree with you Sara. I'm looking at the same thing you're seeing but on a 13.0.3 version and there's nothing about 'mark thread as announcement'.

We have an internal site that is running 13.0.2 and I do not see this option listed in permissions

It looks like there was a post previously about giving Groups a higher ranking, which I think may be beneficial for us. We are an on prem community, and will be reaching out my technical team to discuss this customization, now that I have a bit more information about how this works and how we would go about it.

To your point, we definitely want to be careful to ensure we aren't hiding content from the search. Good to know upgrades will require us to reapply the changes and will be sure to add that into our upgrade documentation should we move forward with this modification.

I've seen a few posts on how to prioritize search results by configuring Solr, but is there any information on how it ranks content for priority in the search results?

It looks like Tagging influences the results, and there is the option to populate only content X years old, but are there any other factors that may influence what populates on top and how those are weighted/ calculated? Do things like View Counts, Likes, etc. also impact the prioritization and weight of results populated?

Re customising the ranking

You could add extra rules into the solr config file, in theory you should also be able to ask the saas team if you are hosted, but I cannot confirm that they will allow it
Also be aware that they would need to be reapplied after any upgrades which would reset the core config and remove any customisations (keep it well documented)

a simple example would be to boost results in specific applications getting boosted

<str name="appBoostQ">applicationid:uuid-A^20 applicationid:uuid-B^10</str>

alternatively you can add extra rules into the query string itself by customising the SearchResults widget to inject the boost rules at runtime before it's passed to solr

something like this

{!boost b=if(termfreq(applicationid,'uuid-A'),20,1)}

but you need to be very careful as what can seem like a simple tweak may end up hiding results as they always appear down the list

this can go as far as adding custom logic to limit results based on geolocation etc

Ranking is based on the solr config in solrconfig.xml within the solr configsets folders

This controls how ootb telligent community scores during search, the snippets below are from v13 so may not be accurate depending on your version as they do tend to get tweaked in separate releases

Lets look at the core config elements and what effect they have on document ranking

Say a user searches for "password reset".

Solr in effect runs two queries simultaneously behind the scenes:

Query 1 — Main search (title, body, attachments)
Finds all posts where "password reset" appears in the title or content and scores them.

Query 2 — Tag re-run (the tagMatch boost query)
Takes the exact same search words ("password reset") and runs them again, but this time only against the tag field. If a post has the tag password-reset or password, it gets extra points added to its score from Query 1.

The final score is:

Depending on where in the indexed document the text appears effects the ranking

Field	Multiplier	What it means
title	×10	Matching words in the title scores 10× more than body text
content_plus	×1 (base)	Body text and attachment text — the baseline
tag_text	×0.01	Tags contribute very little to raw scoring on their own (more on this later)
articleid / kmid	×40	Exact ID lookups score highest (used for direct-link searches, not typical keyword searches)

So there is a sneaky bit of boosting re article and km ids.....

but elements like counts, likes have no effect as they are not stored in the solr index

Phrase-proximity boost rules

The pf, pf2, and pf3 rules add extra query clauses that reward terms appearing together and in order

Closer words means more bonus
If words are adjacent or nearly adjacent, the document gets more points than if those words are scattered.

What this means for ranking:

A document with words next to each other in the right order gets extra points.
Title phrase matches are rewarded more strongly than body matches.
The pf2 and pf3 bonuses are added on top of normal term relevance, so exact/near-exact phrasing tends to move results upward significantly.

Recency boost (date lift)

After text scoring, a time-decay function multiplies every score

Recency boost applies a time-decay factor based on the date field.

Newer items receive a higher factor, older items a lower one.
This does not replace relevance; it scales the relevance score so freshness helps break ties and nudge newer content upward.

Tag-match boost (separate bonus query)

This is a separate bonus score added via a bq (boost query):

It re-runs the user's search against only the tag field and adds any tag match score on top of the main score.
The key setting here is mm=1, meaning only one word needs to match a tag to trigger the bonus.

Why is the qf tag weight ^.01 in "Field Based Boosting" but tags get a separate boost here?

The low weight in "Field Based Boosting" prevents tags from swamping results when every post has generic tags.
The separate boost adds a controlled extra bump specifically when the search words appear as actual tags on a post.

These are the main steps which impact how a document is scored/ranked when searching

So in summary,

Telligent search ranking in the ootb configuration is

mostly keyword relevance with phrase-aware boosts
then a moderate recency adjustment
plus an additional tag-match bonus

Migrating from IOAuthData to IExternalLinkedAuthentication

We are migrating our SSO implementation from IOAuthClient to IExternalLinkedAuthentication.

The user is successfully redirected to the external provider, and the authentication flow completes successfully. On the callback, I am calling the SetLinkedUserData method, but the user is not getting logged in afterward.

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Email Digests and Article Activity

I've noticed that the Email Digests don't capture any activity in the Article application. When looking into the Email Digest settings it looks like GUIDs for each activity is required for the information to populate in the email.

Where do I find the GUIDs to ensure that activities in Articles are captured as part of the digest, and understand which applications/ activities are included in the current digest that is sent?

Hi Rachel Jackson - like LisaM said st this time, there isn't an out-of-the-box report that shows which members have recently enabled email digests without reviewing individual member activity records.

If you need visibility into this across the community, there are a couple of options:

An MCP server connected to your community could help surface this information and make it easier to query changes to email digest settings across members.
A custom report/ plugin could also be developed to track and display members who have recently enabled email digests.

If you'd like, we can discuss the available customization options in more detail.

I think the answer to that is a 'no' Rachel

We've been struggling with the lack of reporting data for a while now especially with finding out how many users are subscribed to certain blogs, forums etc.

I was hopeful that with upgrading to V13 we'd get some enhanced reporting features as was promised in various discussions some time ago BUT either I'm missing something or the enhancements were not included in V13 because I can't see any changes.

There's probably a 'workaround' for getting the data you need but you will probably need your development team (or partner dev supplier) to build you a 'custom' report to extract the data you need

It drives me insane that yet again we have to jump through hoops and come up with 'workarounds' for something that is so simple and should be part of an OOTB offering. 😩

I would add this as a suggestion in the ideas area but I know that would be a futile exercise...

Closing Event Registrations?

Hi Verint community peeps

I recently added an event into a private group of ours for users to attend a webinar I'm hosting. I'm asking for registrations so I can send the meeting link just to those who registered.

However, I've noticed that I can't add a date/time for when registrations will close which means that anyone can still 'register' for the event right up to the last minute and even during the event until the end time. This causes an issue as I can't be hosting a webinar and at the same time checking for new registrants and sending them a meeting link!

I was expecting to see in the form when you add an event into a calendar, a section to add a date/time for when registrations close to give the hosts time to send out joining instructions etc.

Am I just not seeing it or does it not exist? If not then why not?
