How can I turn off email notifications for site roles?

Hello 
 I was doing some testing with a group and I added a site role of people to test a couple of widgets. I was then contacted by someone in the business to say they had received 96 Welcome to [Group Name] emails. 
 What email notification is triggered when a site role is added to a group? Because I want to kill it with fire.

Hi Oliver, 
 You can find it out here Administration > Notifications > Notifications > Group Membership Added. 
 This will trigger either the user joins the group by site role or an owner of the group / Administrator added the user to the Group.
