Can I set forum permissions so only a role, plus the OP can reply?

I am trying to configure a Q&A forum, where all members of the community can post a question, but only those in an expert group can reply AND the person who posted the question can reply.

So far, I have only been able to configure such that ALL members can reply, or JUST the experts can reply.

This is no good, because when the expert replies, it is inevitable that the OP will sometimes want to ask them more detail about their reply.

If this is not possible on 10*, is there any workaround, or would it be possible to configure the forum to work this way in 11? (it occurs to me that there might be an automation for that in 11 where one could say: if this person posts a question, then put them in a role which allows them to reply to their own thread, or something, but that would need to apply only to the specific thread.

The only option I can think of for this scenario, is to grant it so all members can reply, but create a plugin to listen to the before create event on forum replies. You'll be able to check your scenario there to see if the user is an expert or the thread author, if not throw an exception.

It seems an oversight to not allow the thread author not to reply to their own thread. Are you saying there is no plan to fix this, and the situation is the same in Telligent 11? (I don't want to go to the expense of creating a plugin if the problem will be solved or has already been solved in a later version!).

It's not an oversight, it's always been that way. A user has to have the create reply permission regardlessof whether they created the thread or not.

laughed out loud - just because something has always been that way, doesn't mean it wasn't an oversight! I can understand that a user should have create reply permission, but it seems an oversight not to have a config to allow a thread author to reply to their own thread, regardless of the rest of the forum permissions. After all, you do it with 'verify reply' (a post author can verify their own reply regardless of whether permissions are set to allow users in general to have verify reply rights.

I understand, but that is why we have a separate permission as well for verifying replies. I recommend logging an idea for this.
