I'm experiencing the issue that when I try to bold my text, it shows up in the text editor, but not after I publish. Is this a bug? How can this be fixed?

The default font seems a bit light on the bold side. I suggest using Ariel it looks deeper. What do you think?
Looks much better. Is there a way to set this as a default font as Arial?The issue will still be that the default font that is auto-selected doesn't show up as bolded and so the user will perceive it as a bug in the functionality.
Carol Nelson has there been any adjustments to the theme? Patrick Mason Carol works with our consulting company and would know that.

The font inherits from the theme. The default theme for Telligent Community does show bolded text, so there is likely a font adjustment as part of the theme. There may be some changes to it that we plan on overwriting. We're working in a test environment before updating the theme in your community.
